How to layer window treatments
Looking for help trying to match curtains and blinds? Or are you trying to coordinate window treatment styles in the same room or adjoining rooms? Here’s a few good tips on how to achieve a designer-quality look for less.
Layering window treatments
The key when layering drapes with blinds or curtains is to have enough contrast so as to avoid clashing. For the base layer choose from hard window treatments and soft window treatments. Patterns and solids work well with neutral finishes. Hardwood treatments can be found in neutral paint colours or in wood stains. Pick prints with colours or drapery patterns matching other finishes such as the rug or your throw pillows.
When layering a soft window treatment or curtain, pick a print for one and a solid in a coordinating colour for the other. When choosing to go outside of the box, mix 2 prints. Ensure one is large scale and the other is a bit more delicate.
Try layering blackout drapes and sheer panels for visual softness. Sheer panels allow more light in while maintaining privacy and blackout drapes give you uninterrupted sleep.
One great window treatment combo is layering your curtains over roman shades. These are both soft window treatments letting you gain a cozy feel.
